MDM Observatory 2.4m Telescope Observing Report for 2011 Jun 17 Observer(s): John Thorstensen Institution(s): Dartmouth College Instrument: Nellie direct + Buckeye FW Worked for 9 hours (all night) Conditions were Non-Photometric most of the night. No equipment or software problems were encountered. Seeing and Weather: Beg: Seeing 1+ arcsec, Patchy Clouds, Winds Moderate Mid: Seeing 1+ arcsec, Patchy Clouds, Winds Moderate End: Seeing 1+ arcsec, Clear, Winds Light & Variable Observing Summary: A reasonably good night - some patchy high cloud, and a bit breezy at the start, but the seeing was reasonable and it was almost photometric -- close enough for rough purposes. The air was a bit turbid due to windblown dust -- Bobaquivari was noticeably dim. No troubles save for one weird glitch at the very end. I went to home the dome during the slew to zenith -- I think -- and the dome ended up sitting around azimuth 40 and claiming it was at home! I manually set the dome on the contacts and re-set the dome coordinate to 320. After I closed the dome I ran it back and forth a little bit manually and the position readout appeared to respond normally, so hopefully this was a one-time freak event of some kind. ------------------------------ Submitted on 2011 Jun 18 [5:30:35]
