MDM Observatory 2.4m Telescope Observing Report for 2011 Jun 20 Observer(s): John Thorstensen Institution(s): Dartmouth Instrument: Modspec-Templeton Worked for 9 hours (all night) Conditions were Photometric most of the night. No equipment or software problems were encountered. Seeing and Weather: Beg: Seeing 1 arcsec, Clear, Winds Light & Variable Mid: Seeing 1 arcsec, Clear, Winds Light & Variable End: Seeing 1+ arcsec, Clear, Winds Light & Variable Observing Summary: An excellent night with no problems. Startup went smoothly -- the guider came into focus OK. Minor stuff: - The pointing far over was a little more problematical than I remember. - At one point when I went out to rotate after leaving the guider on, I could hear the Finger Lakes shutter firing at the guider cadence. I re-set the Open Shutter in MaximDL and didn't hear it later, but it's fairly quiet. If we have to buy a shutter-open-no-fooling patch from Maxim, so be it. - The aluminum tape under the guider motor mic is loose. My first use of the new rotator for spectroscopy -- it works great and contrary to my trepidations is actually very fast. The paddle positioning might use some thought, though. ------------------------------ Submitted on 2011 Jun 21 [5:15:09]
