MDM Observatory 2.4m Telescope Observing Report for 2012 Jul 05 Observer(s): Rhiannon Griffin, Jenna Nugent Institution(s): University of Oklahoma Instrument: OSMOS Worked for 2 hours (off and on through the night) Conditions were Non-Photometric most of the night. Problems were encountered, see the separate trouble report for details. Seeing and Weather: Clouds from 8:00p until 11:00. Beg: Patchy Clouds, Winds Light & Variable Mid: Clear, Winds Calm End: Overcast, Winds Calm Observing Summary: We started the evening around 6pm with dome flats. When filling the dewar, part of the hose inflated. However, we were able to finish filling it. Since we are waiting on a tube replacement, we did not refill the dewar at the end of the night. The dome flats had dark, circular splotches in the center, indicating there may have been water on the primary mirror or perhaps the dewar window. When the threat of rain occurred, we sent the telescope home and closed the mirror covers. Around 11:00pm we opened up again, when the sky had become relatively clear. The dark, circular effects were gone from the images. Upon noticing the tilt meters were off (x=+0.02, y=+0.02), we went through the pointing procedure. We had difficulty regaining pointing, due to several reasons: user error, guide star selector orientation off, tilt meter zenith value off, cloud and moon interference. When cloud cover became overcast, at 4:00a we shut down for the night. ------------------------------ Submitted on 2012 Jul 6 [4:43:01]
