MDM Observatory 2.4m Telescope Observing Report for 2012 Nov 10 Observer(s): Emily Bowsher, Stephanie Douglas Institution(s): Columbia University Instrument: ModSpec Worked for 3.5 hours (last half of the night) Conditions were Mixed most of the night. No equipment or software problems were encountered. Seeing and Weather: Clouds from 5:30 until 1:30. Beg: Overcast, Winds Calm Mid: Overcast, Winds Calm End: Clear, Winds Calm Observing Summary: Clouds kept us closed at beginning of the night. Once the weather cleared, it was slow going at first as we re-aquainted ourselves with things. We had trouble finding the guide star in the guider image, but I think it was due to user error- we figured out how to tweak the settings in Maxim DL at the end of the night and were able to find the star and focus it. When closing up, we were following the Observer's Guide Annotated Checklist and it says that after you send the telescope home (to zenith) you turn off all TCS switches and the dome goes home. This is misleading- you have to keep the Auto Dome switch on until the dome gets home, or the dome stops part way. We thought that should be noted. ------------------------------ Submitted on 2012 Nov 11 [6:38:37]
