MDM Observatory 2.4m Telescope Observing Report for 2012 Nov 13 Observer(s): Stephanie Douglas, Emily Bowsher Institution(s): Columbia University Instrument: ModSpec Worked for 10 hours (all night) Conditions were Photometric most of the night. Problems were encountered, see the separate trouble report for details. Seeing and Weather: Clouds from 5-530 until 6:15. Beg: Clear, Winds Light & Variable Mid: Clear, Winds Moderate End: Cirrus, Winds Light & Variable Observing Summary: The weather was good all night, aside from some thin/patchy clouds that became apparent at sunrise. The streaks from the last few nights appeared on two images. We had not recently taken lamps, which was our previous hypothesis about the streaks. We were pointed in the general direction of Nogales at the time and the sky seemed brighter in that direction, so that may have affected it. Owl also crashed around 11:30. We had seen warnings when previous images had been read out, and then Owl aborted an exposure and said it couldn't read the controller temperature. We restarted Owl and once we got our settings back (took ~30 min to work everything out) it worked smoothly for the remainder of the night. When shutting the dome down, it stopped a few inches off of the contacts, so we had to turn it to manual and close it ourselves. ------------------------------ Submitted on 2012 Nov 14 [6:17:50]
