MDM Observatory 2.4m Telescope Observing Report for 2013 Apr 21 Observer(s): Hainline, Goulding Institution(s): Dartmouth College Instrument: OSMOS Worked for 10 hours (all night) Conditions were Non-Photometric most of the night. Problems were encountered, see the separate trouble report for details. Seeing and Weather: Beg: Seeing 2 arcsec, Clear, Winds Light & Variable Mid: Seeing 2 arcsec, Clear, Winds Light & Variable End: Seeing 1.3 arcsec, Clear, Winds Calm Observing Summary: While it seemed like it would be a clear night, we had some pretty crummy 1.5 - 2 seeing for the bulk of the night, but it got down to around 1.2 near the end. We observed a MOS set-up (mask 523841) using the triple prism, as requested, although the calibration images were about saturated, even at 1s exposures. We then went and observed some repeat Sy2 in longslit mode using new P.A.s, although we found that when we were at large negative position angles, the guide stars jumped around during guiding, as if MaximDL didn't know exactly the angle. I suppose that there is an easy fix for this, but once it settled down things went ok. We may have lost 30 min to an hour total just futzing with that. All in all, we had a very successful run. We observed all of the targets we had set out to observe, got a great sample of Sy2 to add to our already large sample, and while the seeing was never fantastic, it was good enough for the bulk of the run. Thanks! (Also, there was a beautiful meteor shower!) ------------------------------ Submitted on 2013 Apr 22 [4:55:01]
