MDM Observatory 2.4m Telescope Observing Report for 2013 Jul 06 Observer(s): Milisavljevic, Drout, Villar Institution(s): Harvard, MIT Instrument: CCDS Worked for 4 hours (part of the night) Conditions were Mixed most of the night. Problems were encountered, see the separate trouble report for details. Seeing and Weather: Clouds all night. Beg: Overcast, Winds Calm Mid: Seeing 1.2 arcsec, Cirrus, Winds Calm End: Seeing 1.5 arcsec, Overcast, Winds Calm Observing Summary: Afternoon/Evening started off with some spectacular thunderstorms. Had to do a lightning shut down around 1:00pm. The clouds stared to clear around 11:00pm. When coming out of the lightning shut down the /data/hiltner directory failed to link correctly and was not accessible. Rebooting hiltner had no effect. The problem was solved by cycling the power on the IC computer. Once we were up and running we had several hours of clear skies! We got a couple of good SN spectra. We experienced repeated problems with the CCDS acquisition camera. When rotating the instrument at moderate airmass (1.3-1.6), we would loose connection with the camera. The first time, the problem was solved by ensuring that the cables were fully inserted on the camera. However, on another occasion it was necessary to cycle the power on the camera. There were no problems after that. Around 3:00am another round of clouds rolled in and we decided to close. ------------------------------ Submitted on 2013 Jul 7 [4:37:35]
