MDM Observatory 2.4m Telescope Observing Report for 2013 Oct 27 Observer(s): Price-Whelan Institution(s): Columbia Instrument: Modspec+templeton Worked for 12.5 hours (all night) Conditions were Photometric most of the night. Problems were encountered, see the separate trouble report for details. Seeing and Weather: High Winds all night. Beg: Seeing 1 arcsec, Clear, Winds Light & Variable Mid: Seeing 2 arcsec, Clear, Winds High End: Seeing 1.4 arcsec, Cirrus, Winds Moderate Observing Summary: The night overall was quite good. Seeing at the beginning of the night was right about 1 , but the wind picked up around 0600UT and spoiled that a bit. It got quite gusty for a bit (up to 31mph, according to the weather monitor) and stayed moderately windy until the end of the night. Twice tonight I had to power cycle the MIS box because the guider stopped responding. Rather, it thinks it's moving but it really isn't. This didn't really impact me because it took about ~2 minutes to resolve, total. I lost pointing when trying to hit a high airmass target, but that only set me back about 10 mins. Tonight was a good test of my 2.4m observing skills, and I wonder if Jules was somehow secretly behind this... ------------------------------ Submitted on 2013 Oct 28 [5:57:36]
