MDM Observatory 2.4m Telescope Observing Report for 2014 Feb 01 Observer(s): Cohen, Hainline, French Institution(s): Dartmouth College Instrument: OSMOS Worked for 8.5 hours (last half of the night) Conditions were Mixed most of the night. Problems were encountered, see the separate trouble report for details. Seeing and Weather: Clouds from 6 pm until 10 pm. Beg: Overcast, Winds Calm Mid: Seeing 2 arcsec, Patchy Clouds, Winds Calm End: Seeing 1.5 arcsec, Clear, Winds Calm Observing Summary: The beginning of the night was cloudy, and we did not open until the clouds parted. The seeing was not great at the beginning but improved throughout the night. The sporadic clouds made it difficult to measure the seeing. After moving to our second object, we noticed that the stars were not focused. When we looked at them in more detail, all of the stars were doubled. This occurred whether or not we were guiding. This issue did not occur for the rest of the night. Halfway through observing our second object, we lost guiding. Initially, we thought this was due to a passing cloud, but we found that guiding did not work for the rest of that object, despite clear skies. Once we moved to the next object, the guiding worked fine for the rest of the night. The dome did not home properly, so it had to be homed manually. While closing the dome dropout, the motor made an unusual pulsing noise, but the dropout closed fine. ------------------------------ Submitted on 2014 Feb 2 [7:34:02]
