MDM Observatory 2.4m Telescope Observing Report for 2014 Feb 04 Observer(s): Seth Cohen Institution(s): Dartmouth College Instrument: OSMOS Worked for 3 hours (first half of the night) Conditions were Mixed most of the night. Problems were encountered, see the separate trouble report for details. Seeing and Weather: Clouds from 12:00 until end. Beg: Seeing 0.9 arcsec, Clear, Winds Calm Mid: Overcast, Winds Calm End: Overcast, Winds Calm Observing Summary: First, the weather: clear with sub-arcsecond seeing until around midnight, and then overcast the rest of the night. However, I couldn't begin observing until a few hours after sunset because of Prospero. When I tried taking twilight flats, Prospero crashed. I could not restart it in time to take flats. But then it got worse. When I tried to take a focus frame, the monitor displayed the correct image, but Prospero did not save it. Instead, Prospero added twiflat.6046, a twilight flat I had taken the previous night, to the main directory. When I tried to take another focus frame, Prospero added twiflat.6047. No amount of fiddling or restarting Prospero changed this; all Prospero wanted to do was show me last night's twilight flats. I eventually called Eric, and he worked for a while from home (thank you!) and finally got everything working again. It's a good thing, too, because the clear part of the night had sub-arcsecond seeing. ------------------------------ Submitted on 2014 Feb 5 [5:30:17]
