MDM Observatory 2.4m Telescope Observing Report for 2014 Jan 20 Observer(s): John Thorstensen Institution(s): Dartmouth Instrument: Echelle CCD direct + Buckeye FW Worked for 13 hours (all night) Conditions were Non-Photometric most of the night. No equipment or software problems were encountered. Seeing and Weather: Beg: Seeing 1.3 arcsec, Cirrus, Winds Calm Mid: Seeing 1.1 arcsec, Cirrus, Winds Calm End: Seeing 1.3 arcsec, Cirrus, Winds Calm Observing Summary: Very light cirrus around, with some near-photometric intervals. Almost no wind. Seeing decent though not spectacular. No problems to report, except I noticed the fans on the top of the dome are noisier than they had been and the motors driving the dropout closure sounded labored. Dropout looks more cockeyed than I'd remembered, but my memory may be deceiving me. One glitch getting started -- had inadvertently set an impossible subarray in Owl which caused it to balk. I should revise the manual a bit to make it clearer how to set some of the more obscure subarray parameters. I'm contemplating an early change to spectroscopy, esp. given the prediction of partly-cloudy conditions tonight. ------------------------------ Submitted on 2014 Jan 21 [7:36:37]
