MDM Observatory 2.4m Telescope Observing Report for 2014 Jan 27 Observer(s): John Thorstensen Institution(s): Dartmouth Instrument: modspec + Echelle CCD Worked for 4 hours (off and on through the night) Conditions were Mixed most of the night. Problems were encountered, see the separate trouble report for details. Seeing and Weather: Clouds from 10 PM until 5 AM. Beg: Seeing 1 arcsec, Patchy Clouds, Winds Calm Mid: Overcast, Winds Calm End: Seeing 1.5 arcsec, Clear, Winds Calm Observing Summary: Beautifully clear yesterday, but cirrus coming in around dinnertime; tolerable for first few hours, but clouded up heavily around 10 PM, as a great swatch of clouds pressed across the region. Trailing edge of the system finally got here about 5 AM, so I opened again and got a little more data, including spectra of the M82 supernova, which is not exactly a challenging object to find. It was very clear overhead in twilight - the clouds had pushed on east. Troubles, unfortunately - the shutter didn't work, at least at first.
