MDM Observatory 2.4m Telescope Observing Report for 2014 Jun 19 Observer(s): John Thorstensen & Erek Alper Institution(s): Dartmouth Instrument: Modspec + Echelle CCD Worked for 9 hours (all night) Conditions were Photometric most of the night. No equipment or software problems were encountered. Seeing and Weather: Beg: Seeing 0.9 arcsec, Clear, Winds Light & Variable Mid: Seeing 0.9 arcsec, Clear, Winds Light & Variable End: Seeing 1.5 arcsec, Clear, Winds Light & Variable Observing Summary: A nice night, clear and warmer than before. Seeing started out well but degraded later in the night. We had an odd problem with Owl, but it was almost certainly operator error, though there may actually be a problem. At the start of the night we noticed that the number of lines and columns didn't match our notes, so we reset the subarray to what we thought was right. A little while into the night we noticed the wavelength coverage was slightly off, which led us to spend an hour trying to get everything reset correctly. We had been using an offset subarray center -- dCol = 1090 and dRow = 1020 -- but this did not appear to take when we reset it, although it's difficult to tell since Owl does not record the subarray in the header. After about an hour of fooling around, we went ahead and used what we had. We are taking new flats into the morning. They should be done when the staff comes in, so whoever gets here first can please turn off the flat lamp ... thanks! ------------------------------ Submitted on 2014 Jun 20 [5:25:49]
