MDM Observatory 2.4m Telescope Observing Report for 2014 Mar 28 Observer(s): Schiminovich, Hamden, Gordon, Ong Institution(s): Columbia Instrument: Proto-Chas Worked for 9 hours (all night) Conditions were Photometric most of the night. Problems were encountered, see the separate trouble report for details. Seeing and Weather: Beg: Seeing 2 arcsec, Clear, Winds Calm Mid: Seeing 2 arcsec, Clear, Winds Calm End: Seeing 2 arcsec, Clear, Winds Calm Observing Summary: After some initial dumbness with the telescope pointing (moving the platform which shuts off the TCS) we were able to take some good data tonight. We did have some trouble with the pointing- we were able to use retro-cam to roughly center the galaxy in the FOV, then adjust the guide star info to get the right star chart, and finally adjusted the pointing to put the galaxy in the center of CHaS. The pointing process is laborious. Additionally, the guider stars were more focused than last night, but not perfectly focused. So on Monday we will probably want to adjust things again. Also- the Neon Lamp seemed to stop working on us. We had been able to take neon lamps earlier in the night (at 10:43 pm) but then we tried again at 12:07 and it seemed to not be working or potentially flickering in and out. Not sure what happened. We have been using Hg-Ne instead. ------------------------------ Submitted on 2014 Mar 29 [4:32:52]
