MDM Observatory 2.4m Telescope Observing Report for 2014 Nov 11 Observer(s): Stephanie Douglas, David Jaimes Institution(s): Columbia University Instrument: ModSpec/Echelle Worked for 1 hours (first half of the night) Conditions were Photometric most of the night. Problems were encountered, see the separate trouble report for details. Seeing and Weather: High Humidity from 02:00 until . Beg: Clear, Winds Light & Variable, High Humidity Mid: Fog/Low Clouds, Winds Moderate, humidity 90-94% End: Patchy Clouds, Winds Light & Variable Observing Summary: We opened on time and got a few targets in before the humidity got too high. We erred on the side of being overcautious and closed while the humidity was ~80%. After hearing from John Thorstensen we decided to try to open again, but we only got one more target before the humidity shot up and we closed again. It was in the 90s for much of the night, with heavy fog outside. The humidity came back down again a couple hours before sunrise, but high/patchy clouds were moving in and there was still some residual water left on outside surfaces, so we decided not to open again. While we were open we had some trouble with the dome az readout not matching the telescope az readout, even when they were pointing in the same direction. Since we were only on sky <1 hr, it didn't have a huge impact, but if we'd had to keep checking on it all night it might have been more problematic. ------------------------------ Submitted on 2014 Nov 12 [5:06:19]
