MDM Observatory 2.4m Telescope Observing Report for 2014 Nov 15 Observer(s): David Jaimes, Stephanie Douglas Institution(s): Columbia University Instrument: ModSpec/Echelle Worked for 1.5 hours (off and on through the night) Conditions were Mixed most of the night. Problems were encountered, see the separate trouble report for details. Seeing and Weather: High Humidity from 0230 until . Beg: Cirrus, Winds Light & Variable Mid: Cirrus, Winds Moderate End: Clear, Winds Light & Variable, Observing Summary: We opened at sunset, but while we taking flats we noticed a strange pattern on our data. After consulting with Jules Halpern, we determined that there was moisture on ModSpec's detector window. We attempted to clear the moisture using dry nitrogen, but it didn't actually improve much. Several hours later, after the humidity had gone up and come back down again, the moisture was gone. We lost about 1.5 hours to diagnosing and attempting to fix this. The humidity came down briefly in the middle of the night. We were cautious about opening, and ended up getting about an hour on sky before the humidity rose again and we had to close. The seeing was pretty bad during this time. ------------------------------ Submitted on 2014 Nov 16 [4:06:19]
