MDM Observatory 2.4m Telescope Observing Report for 2015 Jan 27 Observer(s): R. Mark Wagner Institution(s): OSU Instrument: OSMOS No Observing (see comments below) Bad weather most of the night. No equipment or software problems were encountered. Seeing and Weather: High Humidity from 18:00 until 03:00. Observing Summary: Clouds and fog all over the mountain at the start of the night. The humidity was consistently above 85% through 2 am except for a brief interval. KPNO opened around midnight but the summit had consistently lower humidity (~50% at one point) than MDM. Around 2:30 am it improved but was back up to around 85% at 3:00 am. After that it fell to ~72% with clear skies. However there was still considerable water dripping from the building that I decided not to open. No real problems. I did have an issue with the LN2 dewar where with the high humidity both the fill stem nut and the valve on the dewar got stuck and it took some effort to free them. In the morning after filling the dewar, I noticed that the pressure release valve was stuck open for some reason and gas was being released from the dewar. I opened the fill stem valve briefly and that closed the pressure release valve. The staff might want to check the pressure in the dewar in the morning after they arrive. ------------------------------ Submitted on 2015 Jan 28 [4:50:10]
