MDM Observatory 2.4m Telescope Observing Report for 2015 Oct 21 Observer(s): John Thorstensen Institution(s): Dartmouth Instrument: modspec+echelle CCD Worked for 8 hours (most of the night) Conditions were Non-Photometric most of the night. No equipment or software problems were encountered. Seeing and Weather: High Humidity from start until 10 PM. Beg: Patchy Clouds, Winds Calm Mid: Seeing 1 arcsec, Clear, Winds Calm, humid below lim. End: Seeing 1 arcsec, Clear, Winds Calm Observing Summary: Looked grim yesterday, with low clouds and rain showers, but started clearing around sunset and eventually the humidity dropped enough to open. Took about an hour to clear the condensation off the dewar window with dry nitrogen, but it dried up eventually. Once I got going around 10 PM it was pretty smooth sailing, though there was one comical user error: I'd opened the dome shutter partway as the humidity dropped, and my first target was low in the west, but I got no light when I went to the second target -- because, as I found on checking, I'd forgotten to open the dome all the way! ------------------------------ Submitted on 2015 Oct 22 [6:34:01]
