MDM Observatory 2.4m Telescope Observing Report for 2016 Apr 16 Observer(s): Godoy Institution(s): Ohio State Instrument: OSMOS Worked for 7 hours (most of the night) Conditions were Photometric most of the night. No equipment or software problems were encountered. Seeing and Weather: Beg: Seeing 1.5 arcsec, Clear, Winds Calm Mid: Clear, Winds Calm End: Clear, Winds Calm Observing Summary: (Erik, this is the same I wrote in the email I sent tonight) I was not able to take any valuable data tonight. I think I started OK, taking the lamps calibrations, and then getting the focus. I'm mostly sure I did the (initial) pointing right, however I was not able to find some of the targets, while others I did find without problems (I'm not sure why this happened). When I tried to take a spectrum, things started to not-work (due to my inexperience). I was not able to get a guiding star in the guider monitor, and then I could not see the target when the slit was on . I tried to get a guide star anyway (using the values of dx and dy that I calculated), and I think doing that I screwed up the pointing. After that I could not see the targets were they were supposed to be, and not even starting again from the beginning (sending telescope at zenith and getting the nearest bright star) could help things. I think the pointing is just way off, but I was not able to fix it. Around 3:30am I just gave up, and just made sure to close everything correctly. I'm attaching the log file, where I wrote detailed notes on what I was doing, and hopefully this will help fix the errors I made. ------------------------------ Submitted on 2016 Apr 17 [5:09:46]
