MDM Observatory 2.4m Telescope Observing Report for 2016 Aug 17 Observer(s): Thorstensen/Klusmeyer Institution(s): Dartmouth/MDM Instrument: OSMOS+B4k Worked for 8 hours (most of the night) Conditions were Mixed most of the night. No equipment or software problems were encountered. Seeing and Weather: Beg: Seeing 1.3` arcsec, Patchy Clouds, Winds Light & Variable Mid: Seeing 1.3 arcsec, Patchy Clouds, Winds Light & Variable End: Seeing 1.3 arcsec, Clear, Winds Light & Variable Observing Summary: Beautiful clear night with about an hour of brightly-moonlit altocumulus cloud passing through around midnight. Telescope worked well, no problems with dome. When doing spectroscopy, used a new technique to offset the telescope to put the object in the slit; rather than moving the guide probe, we stopped the guider and changed the target pixel coordinates of the guide star on the guide camera. This has no mechanical slop at all and appears to be quite a bit more reliable than the guide probe technique. ------------------------------ Submitted on 2016 Aug 18 [5:39:48]
