MDM Observatory 2.4m Telescope Observing Report for 2016 Aug 18 Observer(s): Thorstensen & Klusmeyer Institution(s): Dartmouth,MDM Instrument: OSMOS + B4k Worked for 5 hours (first half of the night) Conditions were Mixed most of the night. No equipment or software problems were encountered. Seeing and Weather: Rain from 1 AM until 1:15. Beg: Seeing 1.5 arcsec, Patchy Clouds, Winds Light & Variable Mid: Seeing 1 arcsec, Patchy Clouds, Winds Moderate End: Patchy Clouds, Winds Light & Variable Observing Summary: Good usable conditions for the first half, with high cloud coming over around midnight. Parked telescope and closed mirror. After about an hour we were surprised by a sudden rain squall, and closed dome immediately, but not before a significant amount of precip fell! Tilted telescope over to allow water to run off mirror cover, and set up the big fan to help dry off. Did not open cover to check condition of mirror itself - hoping little or no water got on the mirror, especially given that it was just washed. Remained closed later due to humidity. Occasionally one gets taught to be a bit more conservative ... ! ------------------------------ Submitted on 2016 Aug 19 [5:28:04]
