MDM Observatory 2.4m Telescope Observing Report for 2016 Aug 21 Observer(s): Thorstensen/Klusmeyer Institution(s): Dartmouth/MDM Instrument: OSMOS+B4k Worked for 9 hours (all night) Conditions were Photometric most of the night. No equipment or software problems were encountered. Seeing and Weather: Beg: Seeing 1.3 arcsec, Patchy Clouds, Winds Light & Variable Mid: Seeing 1.3 arcsec, Clear, Winds Light & Variable End: Seeing 1. arcsec, Clear, Winds Light & Variable Observing Summary: Remarkable night - cleared very rapidly around sunset, and humidity dropped quickly. There were a few clouds early on but it became very clear. Temperature increased slightly through the night, too. Weirdly, the dome started working again! We had done a lightning shutdown in the afternoon, and we didn't notice when it actually started working again, but partway through the night when moving the dome manually we noticed that the correct azimuth was being displayed. It seems likely that rebooting the TCS machine made something work again, but that's unproven of course. One glitch regarding the 1.3m -- we attempted to purge the dewar window at the start, but even though the lucite flow meter was registering, there didn't seem to be anything coming out of the end of the hose. The hose may have a crack in it somewhere. ------------------------------ Submitted on 2016 Aug 22 [5:42:40]
