MDM Observatory 2.4m Telescope Observing Report for 2016 Jan 17 Observer(s): Alper Institution(s): Dartmouth Instrument: Modspec/Echelle Worked for 13 hours (all night) Conditions were Photometric most of the night. Problems were encountered, see the separate trouble report for details. Seeing and Weather: Beg: Clear, Winds Calm Mid: Clear, Winds Calm End: Clear, Winds Calm Observing Summary: Our first totally clear night! However, the seeing was almost indescribably bad for a few hours - I've never seen stars blur so much before (on both the 1.3 and the 2.4, so I don't think I was going insane). Aside from that, a few notes, detailed further in the trouble report: - The sqeaking on the 2.4 persists. Hopefully we'll be able to figure that out sooner rather than later. - The telescope decided twice during the night to slew to the east, seemingly at random. This has nothing to do with the guider, which for once worked perfectly fine. - Around 2:45 am (when I noticed it) the dome AC computer started flashing: SYSTEM DISABLED -- Sensors appear to be malfunctioning I have no idea what would have brought this on. ------------------------------ Submitted on 2016 Jan 18 [6:36:16]
