MDM Observatory 2.4m Telescope Observing Report for 2016 Jan 20 Observer(s): Alper Institution(s): Dartmouth Instrument: Modspec/Echelle Worked for 13 hours (all night) Conditions were Photometric most of the night. No equipment or software problems were encountered. Seeing and Weather: High Winds all night. Beg: Clear, Winds Moderate Mid: Clear, Winds Moderate End: Seeing BAD arcsec, Clear, Winds High Observing Summary: Our first 100% clear night, and also our last night. Naturally. However, as the night wore on high winds and increasing humidity made the seeing something awful. No shutdowns necessary, but winds topped out at 30 mph and humidity was into the 80%'s. Only problem this evening was the very last dome rotation of the night, when the dome once again decided to ignore the encoder moving clockwise. Setting the dome home actually worked, though, and the encoder reset itself at 320.3 upon reaching home. However, the error is offset by -38.7 as it sits right now, so it will probably have to be unplugged and replugged again. I would've done that myself, but I figured it might be beneficial for Eric & Co to see the situation/if the problem miraculously fixes itself, as Eric says it sometimes does. ------------------------------ Submitted on 2016 Jan 21 [15:10:41]
