MDM Observatory 2.4m Telescope Observing Report for 2016 Jul 07 Observer(s): Neric Institution(s): ASU Instrument: OSMOS Worked for 6.5 hours (most of the night) Conditions were Photometric most of the night. Problems were encountered, see the separate trouble report for details. Seeing and Weather: Beg: Seeing 2.02 arcsec, Patchy Clouds, Winds Light & Variable Mid: Clear, Winds Calm End: Clear, Winds Calm Observing Summary: Some issues starting around 0600 UTC. Attempted to readjust pointing to move target in better position on the frame. After manual slew of telescope and setting RA/Dec encoders, and returning to observe target, it was not visible. This was believed to be operator error in moving the pointing too far off. From 0600 to 0850 attempted to get back on target. Set telescope to zenith, turned off track, and manually slew the telescope watching the tilt rotors to set them to zero. Adjusted RA to LSA+1 reset RA/Dec encoders, and turned track back on. Nearest bright still not visible. Repeated process a second time and was able to acquire nearest bright and reset pointing. Found target again and resumed run. Following shutdown procedures I attempted to stow the telescope at the zenith. TCS read At Zenith, however the tilt readings were 0.01 ; -4.00. Visual inspection showed that the telescope was not at zenith. Manually slew the telescope to desired tilt readings. TCS shows telescope 12 degrees of zenith. Dome was slow to move automatically sometimes taking long pauses before reaching final destination. ------------------------------ Submitted on 2016 Jul 8 [14:07:56]
