MDM Observatory 2.4m Telescope Observing Report for 2016 Jun 09 Observer(s): John Thorstensen Institution(s): Dartmouth Instrument: modspec+echelle CCD Worked for 0.5 hours (part of the night) Bad weather most of the night. No equipment or software problems were encountered. Seeing and Weather: Clouds all night. Beg: Seeing 1 arcsec, Cirrus, Winds Moderate Mid: Smoke, Winds Moderate End: Smoke, Winds Light & Variable Observing Summary: A thunderstorm far to SE threw cirrus up that stayed around most of the night and got heavy at times; not only that, but KPNO was closed due to dust/smoke. I opened at the start to ensure that things were working but didn't open again. Not sure what was in the air, but I did imagine that I smelled a slight whiff of forest fire smoke. It might be good to look into a more quantiative way or measuring the particulates than shining a flashlight beam and wondering whether what you're seeing is really that atypical. ------------------------------ Submitted on 2016 Jun 10 [4:43:15]
