MDM Observatory 2.4m Telescope Observing Report for 2016 May 04 Observer(s): Ryan Chornock Institution(s): Ohio University Instrument: OSMOS/R Worked for 10 hours (all night) Conditions were Photometric most of the night. Problems were encountered, see the separate trouble report for details. Seeing and Weather: Beg: Seeing 1.5-2 arcsec, Clear, Winds Moderate Mid: Seeing 2-2.5 arcsec, Clear, Winds Moderate End: Seeing 1.5 arcsec, Clear, Winds Moderate Observing Summary: First night of five using OSMOS/R for some long spectra of SNe and AGN. Clear and dry. The image quality was bad and highly variable over most of the first half before stabilizing into mediocrity after about 1AM. This may be due to the mirror cooling system not working properly in the afternoon beforehand. Only a little breezy tonight, but the winds are supposed to pick up over the next few days. I was using R4K, which is showing some electronic noise issues (see trouble report). The upper-left quadrant is showing a large increase in read noise, but I was doing long-slit, so I simply avoided placing objects on that half of the detector. ------------------------------ Submitted on 2016 May 5 [5:47:10]
