MDM Observatory 2.4m Telescope Observing Report for 2016 Oct 21 Observer(s): Frank & Swihart Institution(s): OSU & MSU Instrument: OSMOS Worked for 13 hours (all night) Conditions were Non-Photometric most of the night. No equipment or software problems were encountered. Seeing and Weather: Beg: Seeing 1.2 arcsec, Cirrus, Winds Light & Variable Mid: Seeing 1.2 arcsec, Clear, Winds Calm End: Seeing 1.2 arcsec, Clear, Winds Calm Observing Summary: Another good night. 2 short remarks : a. Prospero got stuck once during the countdown in an exposure, that exposure was dutifully completed and recorded, but afterwards Prospero could not be made to do anything at all anymore. A simple shutdown of the command window, and a restart combined with ossetup solved the problem (as suggested by someone else in the searchable problem&solution database). b. once in the dome, while rotating the instrument with the hand paddle, we heard quite strange noises coming evidently from underneath the floor at the SE ( the DANGER zone to be entered only by permit). Reminiscent of some possibly sizeable animal gnawing or using its claws. Those scratching noises persisted for at least 15 minutes, but after they had stopped : total silence, no repeat. ------------------------------ Submitted on 2016 Oct 22 [4:41:02]
