MDM Observatory 2.4m Telescope Observing Report for 2017 Apr 27 Observer(s): Tom Holoien Institution(s): Ohio State Instrument: OSMOSB4k Worked for 5 hours (first half of the night) Conditions were Mixed most of the night. Problems were encountered, see the separate trouble report for details. Seeing and Weather: Clouds all night. Beg: Seeing 1.6 arcsec, Patchy Clouds, Winds Light & Variable Mid: Seeing 1.4 arcsec, Cirrus, Winds Light & Variable End: Patchy Clouds, Winds Light & Variable Observing Summary: Patchy clouds caused issues for most of the night. Also ran into two telescope issues. First the guider was not moving in the X direction when sent commands, either from JSkyCalc or from the MIS GUI. I fixed this issue by power cycling the MIS controller in the computer room and re-initializing the MIS GUI. The second issue was the return of the drifting seen in the previous night. After being on a target for anywhere from 5-30 mins, the telescope would start drifting in RA. Sometimes it would move and stop, other times it would just keep going. This happened whether guiding was on or not. Tracking was on in all cases, and it occurred for 5 different targets. I was able to do some imaging, but spectra were not possible, and I closed up early since I couldn't fix the problem. ------------------------------ Submitted on 2017 Apr 28 [3:40:55]
