MDM Observatory 2.4m Telescope Observing Report for 2017 Aug 23 Observer(s): John Thorstensen & Justin Rupert Institution(s): Dartmouth, MDM Instrument: OSMOS + B4K Worked for 6 hours (part of the night) Conditions were Mixed most of the night. No equipment or software problems were encountered. Seeing and Weather: Clouds from start until 9. Beg: Overcast, Winds Moderate Mid: Seeing 1.5? arcsec, Clear, Winds Light & Variable End: Seeing 1.5? arcsec, Clear, Winds Light & Variable Observing Summary: JT arrived a bit later than usual because the gate on the road was closed and looked locked the previous night. Heavy storm in afternoon, shutdown for lightning. Around 10 PM it cleared nicely with humidity well below limit; brought the machines back up slowly because of numerous mistakes and the very, very long boot time of hiltner, but eventually got there. Observed several targets, rather maladroitly, getting used to the instrument again. Got very few calibrations. Power and internet went down early in the night, apparently a consequence of whatever they're doing at the summit. Also, instrument rotator had to be power-cycled a few times; we'll see if this persists tonight. ------------------------------ Submitted on 2017 Aug 24 [12:20:15]
