MDM Observatory 2.4m Telescope Observing Report for 2017 Jan 16 Observer(s): John Thorstensen Institution(s): Dartmouth Instrument: modspec + echelle CCD Worked for 4 hours (off and on through the night) Conditions were Mixed most of the night. No equipment or software problems were encountered. Seeing and Weather: High Humidity from time until time. Beg: Clear, Winds Light & Variable Mid: Seeing 1+ arcsec, Clear, Winds Light & Variable End: Clear, Winds Light & Variable Observing Summary: The tail end of a storm still around at dinner, with fog and some sprinkles -- with Graupel (small frozen raindrops similar to hail) mixed in. But this dissipated after sunset, and the humidity dropped to an acceptable level around 10 PM. Opened up then -- very carefully! -- and worked until 1:15 or so, when the RH spiked upward. Could open again about 3, and stayed open until about 4:15, when it rose for the rest of the night. KPNO stayed open from 10 until about 4, so it must have been a bit more humid down here. Weather was pretty clear, seeing was quite usable, and got a lot done during the usable time. The dome returned about 2 feet from the contacts the first time I closed, but was pretty much on them when I closed the second time. Noticed that the Andor camera shutter was firing (needlessly) when I went out to fill the dewar, and set it to be permanently open. ------------------------------ Submitted on 2017 Jan 17 [6:21:44]
