MDM Observatory 2.4m Telescope Observing Report for 2017 Jan 19 Observer(s): John Thorstensen Institution(s): Dartmouth Instrument: modspec + echelle CCD Worked for 1 hours (part of the night) Conditions were Overcast most of the night. No equipment or software problems were encountered. Seeing and Weather: Clouds all night. Beg: Seeing 1-2 arcsec, Patchy Clouds, Winds Moderate Mid: Fog/Low Clouds, Winds Moderate End: Fog/Low Clouds, Winds Moderate Observing Summary: The very grim weather of the morning cleared up partially, with big clear spots during the day. Mid-level cloud coverage became more extensive around dinnertime, but the setting sun was visible under the cloud deck. After twilight there were some fairly good holes drifting by, so I opened to spear-fish a bright target, and succeeded in getting one -- one! -- usable spectrum. Doing this while struggling with a glitchy telescope (tracking stopped once) proved to be too much, so I closed up after a short while. Fog rolled in a few hours later bringing the curtain down definitively. There is a storm coming that will wipe out the last nights of my run, save possibly Sunday, so I decided to leave early (which I almost never do). ------------------------------ Submitted on 2017 Jan 20 [3:01:36]
