MDM Observatory 2.4m Telescope Observing Report for 2017 Jan 25 Observer(s): Jessica Klusmeyer Institution(s): MDM Instrument: OSMOSB4k Worked for 14 hours (all night) Conditions were Photometric most of the night. No equipment or software problems were encountered. Seeing and Weather: Beg: Seeing 1.5 arcsec, Clear, Winds Calm, RH~84 Mid: Seeing 1.8 arcsec, Clear, Winds Calm, RH~31 End: Seeing 1.8 arcsec, Clear, Winds Calm Observing Summary: Sky was clear but humidity was very high. Humidity stayed in limits ~84% and was able to open/observe. (Mirror covers opened without a problem.) Made an observer error by leaving the finder in and lost some frames during twilight. Also had to ice skate down to open the dark hatch for 1.3m. Telescope pointing was off and had trouble aligning. I used the zenith tilt readings (+0.05,-0.03) for alignment but nearest brightest was not in 1k, 2k frames. It took time to readout but aligned with 4K. I am unaware of a faster solution to this problem. Seeing was not stable tonight. It took more time than usual to get focus however I do not think there is an issue with the telescope. Guider would not stay in focus and was just looked different than normal but maybe I'm just paranoid with all the issues from yesterday. When moving to a target the dome moved 20 degrees too far CCW. I turned off auto dome, reset dome encoders. No issues for rest of night, dome went to home. Broke the tube when refilling the dewar. ------------------------------ Submitted on 2017 Jan 26 [7:40:26]
