MDM Observatory 2.4m Telescope Observing Report for 2017 Jan 26 Observer(s): Jessica Klusmeyer Institution(s): MDM Instrument: OSMOSB4k No Observing (see comments below) Conditions were Photometric most of the night. Problems were encountered, see the separate trouble report for details. Seeing and Weather: Observing Summary: Quick summary of a not so great night. see trouble report for more details First started off by over filling dewar and dropping dolly creating a hole in paint on lift in dome. From previous day thought issues with focus were seeing/ weather conditions, now believe problem is telescope. After suggestions from previous day spent a good amount of time trying to focus, used different filters to test as well. Could not get rid of coma like appearance. Could not use telescope for imaging thought maybe spectroscopy. When observing standard star the dome was out of position. This happened 3 times and at closing Moved to first scientific target and had issues as well. Noticed trails in image and TCSLink went down. Had to park scope and reset TCS following procedure. Had to reset TCS 2x to fix After reset guiding was off and Zenith tilt reading require 4k image to find star. Not a problem but time consuming. Focusing after event was not better but still hopeful to gather spectra. Moved to a target and west mirror cover closed. Had to move scope and climb up to open mirror cover Tried another location and west mirror cover closed repeated process again Not entirely sure exact HA of mirror cover closing ~ +1 h Debated tying up west mirror cover and attempting to gather data but am no longer hopeful with how the night is going and am closing up to await solutions in the morning I believe the mirror covers closed in the wrong order :( ------------------------------ Submitted on 2017 Jan 27 [1:42:47]
