MDM Observatory 2.4m Telescope Observing Report for 2017 Jun 21 Observer(s): John Thorstensen Institution(s): Dartmouth Instrument: modspec + echelle CCD Worked for 8 hours (all night) Conditions were Non-Photometric most of the night. No equipment or software problems were encountered. Seeing and Weather: Beg: Seeing 1+ arcsec, Cirrus, Winds Light & Variable Mid: Seeing 0.8 arcsec, Cirrus, Winds Light & Variable End: Seeing 1-2 arcsec, Clear, Winds Light & Variable Observing Summary: Another dubious-looking afternoon with lots of cirrus pumped up by storms to the east, but these dissipated in late afternoon and gave a relatively clear night. Still quite a bit of smoke around - the sun was dim and red at sunset. Seeing was excellent for a while, but the temperature dropped several degrees around 2 AM, and the seeing became variable after that. The guide probe and dome both behaved themselves. Incidentally, my seeing estimates are guesses. ------------------------------ Submitted on 2017 Jun 22 [5:13:53]
