MDM Observatory 2.4m Telescope Observing Report for 2017 Mar 06 Observer(s): Paust Institution(s): Dartmouth Instrument: OSMOS/4K Worked for 11 hours (all night) Conditions were Photometric most of the night. No equipment or software problems were encountered. Seeing and Weather: Beg: Seeing 1.25 arcsec, Clear, Winds Calm Mid: Seeing 1.5 arcsec, Clear, Winds Calm End: Seeing 1.5 arcsec, Clear, Winds Calm Observing Summary: This was the kind of night that you're supposed to get: clear from sunset to sunrise. Wind was low, but there were no images with less than 1.25 seeing. The seeing monitor on the 4m was recording seeing around 1 and sometimes better, which made it pretty frustrating. There were also several times where the 1.3m was getting better seeing than the 2.4, despite taking the same length exposures at similar air masses. I'm realizing that I really haven't had amazing images in any of the times that I've used OSMOS. Am I doing something wrong? Based on the documentation, it seems like colfocus is always supposed to be 2300 and then you let cam focus change by 500 points per 10 degrees. Moving past that, it was a very successful night of observing and the forecast seems to suggest that there will be more. ------------------------------ Submitted on 2017 Mar 7 [7:00:46]
