MDM Observatory 2.4m Telescope Observing Report for 2017 Mar 27 Observer(s): Thorstensen Institution(s): Dartmouth Instrument: Modspec + echelle CCD Worked for 6 hours (off and on through the night) Conditions were Mixed most of the night. No equipment or software problems were encountered. Seeing and Weather: Clouds from 1AM until dawn. Beg: Seeing 1.5 arcsec, Clear, Winds High Mid: Seeing 1.5 arcsec, Patchy Clouds, Winds High End: Overcast, Winds Moderate Observing Summary: The night began beautifully clear, but windy. Some high clouds blew through around 11 PM, but then about 1 AM it clouded up abruptly. I figured this, too, would pass, but noticed KPNO was closed, and on checking the radar was surprised to see storms approaching -- these had not been forecast at all! I closed, and an hour later an electrical storm passed by maybe 10 miles to the north. The front took several hours to pass, but by dawn it was clearing off nicely, with low humidity and no hint of rain coming on the radar. I opened just after the beginning of twilight and followed a bright high-priority target until it was too bright. Hadn't expected that! No technical problems; in particular, the dome returned to its contacts accurately at the end of the night. ------------------------------ Submitted on 2017 Mar 28 [8:15:17]
