MDM Observatory 2.4m Telescope Observing Report for 2017 Mar 30 Observer(s): John Thorstensen Institution(s): Dartmouth Instrument: modspec + echelle CCD Worked for 1.5 hours (part of the night) Conditions were Photometric most of the night. Problems were encountered, see the separate trouble report for details. Seeing and Weather: Beg: Seeing 1.5-2 arcsec, Clear, Winds High Mid: Clear, Winds High End: Overcast, Winds Moderate Observing Summary: Beautifully clear at first, but extremely windy. Caught one time-critical observation at the start, but then closed because there was too much blowing debris. Winds were gusting above the 40 mph limit at times. Kitt Peak never opened. Winds did moderate some later, but there was still a lot of stuff in the air; then it clouded up around 3, and finally around 4:30 there was some rain with graupel mixed in. ('Graupel' means low-density icy pellets which are not quite hail but definitely not snow. It turns out to be a useful word around here.) Dome failed during the observation, but I fixed it (see trouble report). ------------------------------ Submitted on 2017 Mar 31 [4:53:03]
