MDM Observatory 2.4m Telescope Observing Report for 2017 Oct 28 Observer(s): Rupert Institution(s): MDM Instrument: OSMOS/B Worked for 11 hours (all night) Conditions were Photometric most of the night. Problems were encountered, see the separate trouble report for details. Seeing and Weather: Beg: Seeing 1.5 arcsec, Clear, Winds Calm Mid: Seeing 1.2 arcsec, Clear, Winds Calm End: Seeing 1.4 arcsec, Clear, Winds Calm Observing Summary: There was a weird moment when I tried to slew the telescope to a new object in the southern sky, but it instead went to its western limit. I used the hand paddle to get it out to HA about 3, then tried to slew again, and again it went for western limit. I manually sent it to zenith, closed the TCS window, started it up again, and that seemed to work. Later on the auto dome stopped working. I am not sure what could have happened, and simply sending it home and restarting the software wasn't enough. I ended up flipping the auto dome switch on the chassis off then on again, booted the software and that seemed to do the trick. Other than these two glitches the night was fine. The instrument rotator was again off, this time by -15.7 degrees by night's end. It has gotten increasingly harder throughout each of the nights on this run to find a guide star, as a result. ------------------------------ Submitted on 2017 Oct 29 [6:46:15]
