MDM Observatory 2.4m Telescope Observing Report for 2017 Sep 22 Observer(s): Weil Institution(s): Dartmouth Instrument: OSMOS/B Worked for 7.5 hours (all night) Conditions were Mixed most of the night. Problems were encountered, see the separate trouble report for details. Seeing and Weather: Beg: Seeing 1.5-2 arcsec, Cirrus, Winds Light & Variable Mid: Seeing 1.5 arcsec, Cirrus, Winds Light & Variable End: Clear, Winds Calm Observing Summary: Problems with the telescope forced an early closure. A trouble report with more details has been submitted. Beginning of the night there was cirrus on the horizon. During the middle of the night clouds formed in the Western sky but they cleared quickly. Seeing was poor at the beginning at the beginning of the night but improved in the middle of the night. Telescope made a loud grinding sound that was intermittent at first but as the night went it got worse. The noise appeared to be coming from the mount holding the telescope near the RA/DEC encoders. Since it sounded like the telescope gears were grinding and tracking was not smooth as the noise got louder, I closed the telescope to not damage it at 2am. ------------------------------ Submitted on 2017 Sep 23 [3:22:36]
