MDM Observatory 2.4m Telescope Observing Report for 2018 Feb 08 Observer(s): Douglas, Weaver, Carmichael Institution(s): Columbia Instrument: OSMOS/R Worked for 8.5 hours (most of the night) Conditions were Non-Photometric most of the night. Problems were encountered, see the separate trouble report for details. Seeing and Weather: Beg: Clear, Winds Light & Variable Mid: Clear, Winds Light & Variable, Smoke End: Clear, Winds Light & Variable, Smoke Observing Summary: The night started off clear, and despite our continued issues with the guider we were able to get fairly good data by being more careful about keeping the guide probe further from the detector FOV. At around UT~10 the ARO observer alerted us to smoke outside, and we closed down. Initially the 4m OA asked us to stay and monitor since we couldn't see fire anywhere; eventually the smoke level increased to the point it was coming into the 2.4m building and we went to the summit. The 4m OA had called 911 and determined it was a known fire somewhere that was already being worked on. We came back to MDM at sunrise and the smoke level has decreased enough we can sleep in the building but it's still present outside. ------------------------------ Submitted on 2018 Feb 9 [7:39:02]
