MDM Observatory 2.4m Telescope Observing Report for 2018 Jan 30 Observer(s): Rupert Institution(s): MDM Instrument: OSMOS/R Worked for 13 hours (all night) Conditions were Photometric most of the night. Problems were encountered, see the separate trouble report for details. Seeing and Weather: Beg: Seeing 1.0 arcsec, Clear, Winds Calm Mid: Seeing 1.0 arcsec, Clear, Winds Calm End: Seeing 1 arcsec, Clear, Winds Calm Observing Summary: The accuracy of the new instrument rotator is great! However, the direction of rotation is switched: CW on the yellow hand paddle now rotates in the positive direction, and vice versa. Spent about 30 minutes looking for a guide star before realizing my struggles might have to do with this flipped rotator. So I switched the sign of the Rotator Angle in JSkyCalc and the angle of the guide camera to accommodate this change, and I was able to find the guide star immediately and get good tracking. I had to restart the IC, but that resulted in little loss of time. There was a period of two hours in the middle where most of the targets were too close to the moon to obtain decent exposures. Seeing was better than I've experienced, though! ------------------------------ Submitted on 2018 Jan 31 [7:25:08]
