MDM Observatory 2.4m Telescope Observing Report for 2019 Jul 23 Observer(s): Clarkson, Fiolka, Boyd Institution(s): UM-Dearborn Instrument: ANDOR No Observing (see comments below) Bad weather most of the night. No equipment or software problems were encountered. Seeing and Weather: Rain all night. Observing Summary: No technical problems but we did not even open due to weather. Overcast throughout; rained about half the night. We saw (non-fork) lightning at about 01:15am (and repeatedly in the all-sky camera at about that time), so performed a lightning shutdown of the 2.4m as a precaution. (The 1.3m is already shut down.) Airbags were not included in the lightning shutdown; the telescope was set at HA -1 (to prevent water pooling in the event of a dome leak), and we were hesitant to deflate the airbags with the telescope at this position. (From the documentation, we *think* it's safe to shut off the airbags even with the telescope far from zenith as long as the telescope is not then moved, but would appreciate confirmation on this issue.) ------------------------------ Submitted on 2019 Jul 24 [4:13:44]
