MDM Observatory 2.4m Telescope Observing Report for 2020 Feb 28 Observer(s): Wei Sun Institution(s): University of Michigan Instrument: OSMOS Worked for 17 hours (all night) Conditions were Mixed most of the night. Problems were encountered, see the separate trouble report for details. Seeing and Weather: Clouds from 21:50 until 01:30. Beg: Patchy Clouds, Winds Calm Mid: Overcast, Winds Calm End: Clear, Winds Calm Observing Summary: Data writing errors were encountered four times during the night, at ~22:00pm, 12:00am, 07:30am, and 08:20am, respectively. At the first time, I restarted IC PC and Caliban, then a Telescope controller not responding” error came up. I followed a solution in the trouble report to power-cycle HE. Problem solved. At the second time, also met the telescope controller issue, but did not resolve after power-cycling HE. Then I followed another solution in the trouble report by quitting the mdmtcs, caliban & isis terminals. problem solved again. At the third and fourth time, I only quit the Caliban terminal, and power cycled IC PC by Ctrl/Alt/Deleting on raritan (did I reboot the IC PC by that?). Problem solved directly, leaving a buffered file when I made next exposure. The disk space gets to full at the beginning of the observation, which made the first writing error. I deleted some files that has already been archived. Eric released some more space remotely. By now there is 25 GB space available for the data directory ( /lhome/data ). I also adjusted the motor mike of the guider manually, following Eric's instruction. I did not see the blue marker that Eric has mentioned, and moved the motor mike randomly (outward/westward I think?), but it WORKED LIKE A MIRACLE! Cloud wandered all over the sky during the first half of the night. We still managed to make some astronomical observations after 03:00am. Last but not the least, I was called to open the remote guider window of the 1.3m telescope. The screen showing related information keeps flashing and makes a lot of trouble to open the proper window as the Columbia observers requested. ------------------------------ Submitted on 2020 Feb 29 [8:32:17]
