MDM Observatory 2.4m Telescope Observing Report for 2022 Jan 10 Observer(s): John Thorstensen Institution(s): Dartmouth Instrument: OSMOS + B4k Worked for 13 hours (all night) Conditions were Mixed most of the night. No equipment or software problems were encountered. Seeing and Weather: Beg: Seeing 3-5 arcsec, Cirrus, Winds High Mid: Seeing 2-4 arcsec, Cirrus, Winds Moderate End: Seeing 2-3 arcsec, Cirrus, Winds Light & Variable Observing Summary: Mostly clear, but high clouds around. The big factor tonight was strong wind in the first half, and very bad seeing -- more than 5 arcsec at times. The wind and seeing moderated in the second half of the night, but the seeing was never better than mediocre. Fortunately I was able to select some relatively easy targets and advance the frontiers of knowledge despite the poor conitions. Everything worked. I never checked the focus, since the seeing was so poor. Two minor issues at the end of the night: 1) Through operator error I managed to freeze the middle panel of the prospero display. The data were still coming in fine. I tried clearing it, but it doesn't re-paint, so something needs to be re-started and I figured it would be best not to waste sleeping time on it. 2) The LN2 fill hose developed an embolism right at the storage dewar end, but did not burst, so I got a good fill in the morning. ------------------------------ Submitted on 2022 Jan 11 [7:15:05]
