MDM Observatory 2.4m Telescope Observing Report for 2023 Dec 10 Observer(s): John Thorstensen Institution(s): Dartmouth Instrument: OSMOS Worked for 13 hours (all night) Conditions were Non-Photometric most of the night. No equipment or software problems were encountered. Seeing and Weather: Beg: Seeing 1+ arcsec, Clear, Winds Calm Mid: Seeing 1 arcsec, Cirrus, Winds Calm End: Seeing 1 arcsec, Cirrus, Winds Calm Observing Summary: Light cirrus later in the night but all usable. No problems. I set the focus compensation to truss arms rather than the default center section, and the focus seemed to hold pretty well all night. I wonder if the temperature compensation was actually working on previous nights, or if the truss arms choice was responsible. I remember that the original study by Tonry and others showed a tight relationship between truss arm temperature and focus value, so this seems possible at least. ------------------------------ Submitted on 2023 Dec 11 [7:08:21]
