MDM Observatory 2.4m Telescope Observing Report for 2023 Nov 13 Observer(s): Rachael Roettenbacher & Krisztian Vida Institution(s): Michigan & Konkoly Observatory Instrument: OSMOS Worked for 10 hours (most of the night) Conditions were Mixed most of the night. No equipment or software problems were encountered. Seeing and Weather: Clouds from 3 until 6. Beg: Clear, Winds Light & Variable Mid: Cirrus, Winds Light & Variable End: Overcast, Winds Calm Observing Summary: The issues that slowed down data acquisition were just learning the instrument. Even with a bit of a slow start, we managed to get some data on a target before our fields were up and some data on both of our fields using the masks! The M44 mask (in slit position2) had a slight misalignment between stars at the top of the field and at the bottom. Could we have its placement in the wheel checked to make sure it isn't slightly bent? We closed at about 3 a.m. when KPNO issued a dome closed due to threatening clouds warning. The warning did not clear, so we did not reopen. We also want to note that the engine that moves the slit really struggles when the slit is nearly completely open. It shakes quite violently at the top of the dome, so we wanted to point that out, in case it's new or has gotten worse. ------------------------------ Submitted on 2023 Nov 14 [6:01:01]
