MDM Observatory 2.4m Telescope Observing Report for 2024 Dec 05 Observer(s): John Thorstensen, Ricky Mendez Institution(s): Dartmouth Instrument: OSMOS Worked for 8 hours (part of the night) Conditions were Photometric most of the night. No equipment or software problems were encountered. Seeing and Weather: Beg: Seeing 1.5 arcsec, Clear, Winds Calm Mid: Patchy Clouds, Winds Calm End: Seeing 1.5 arcsec, Clear, Winds Calm Observing Summary: Mostly clear, with a raft of clouds coming over around 9:30 which shut us down. I took this opportunity to nap for a while since I'm about to drive Ricky Mendez to the airport. Experienced a few guider jumps -- these seem to occur largely in the northwest (though statistics are limited) and always are corrected by mashing the WEST button on the handpaddle, so it's as if the drive cuts out briefly. Autofocus continues to mostly work but with some odd jumps - at start, we were about 100 units too high. I didn't chase it during the night -- some images during the night had 5+ pixel FWHM, but with smooth, symmetrical profiles indicating slightly soft seeing rather than focus. ------------------------------ Submitted on 2024 Dec 6 [8:53:25]
