MDM Observatory 2.4m Telescope Observing Report for 2024 Jan 17 Observer(s): Thorstensen Institution(s): Dartmouth Instrument: OSMSO Worked for 13 hours (all night) Conditions were Mixed most of the night. No equipment or software problems were encountered. Seeing and Weather: Clouds from start until 21:00. Beg: Seeing 1.3 arcsec, Patchy Clouds, Winds Moderate Mid: Seeing 1.3 arcsec, Cirrus, Winds Light & Variable End: Seeing 1.3 arcsec, Clear, Winds Light & Variable Observing Summary: Copious high cloud before sunset, with some clear spots, but the satellite animations showed them moving fast, and they cleared out within a few hours. The satellite pictures showed a cloud evidently caused by our mountain range - a bright white spot shaped like the Baboquivari mountains - but this dissipated. As the upper-level moisture blew east, similar cloud formation formed over more easterly ranges. After the clouds blew away it was quite a beautiful night. ------------------------------ Submitted on 2024 Jan 18 [7:15:24]
