MDM Observatory 2.4m Telescope Observing Report for 2024 Jun 14 Observer(s): John Thorstensen Institution(s): Dartmouth Instrument: OSMOS Worked for 7.5 hours (all night) Conditions were Photometric most of the night. No equipment or software problems were encountered. Seeing and Weather: Beg: Seeing 1.5 arcsec, Clear, Winds Moderate Mid: Seeing 1.3 arcsec, Clear, Winds Light & Variable End: Seeing 1.3 arcsec, Clear, Winds Calm Observing Summary: A beautiful night, clear from dusk to dawn, and with less smoke - Kitt Peak was open all night. Everything worked well, but I did have an issue early on -- On my evening flatfields, there was a blurry dark blob several hundred pixels across. This moved around from frame to frame and was consistent with dispersed flats (solar spectrum with slit and disperser) and direct images (no slit or disperser), so it had to have been on the dewar window. All evidence was consistent with a ladybug, which have been a plague. It went away on my first science exposure and never came back, thankfully! I don't know how it got in the instrument. ------------------------------ Submitted on 2024 Jun 15 [5:07:11]
